Central Bank of India, one of the largest Public Sector & first swadeshi Bank of the country celebrated its Centenary Day on 21st December, 2011. In a glittering function organized at Delhi Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Hon’ble Finance Minister was the Chief Guest of the function. In his speech Shri Mukherjee dealt at length the present banking scenario of the country and impressed that banking system has to meet its onerous responsibilities towards people of India and they should be partner to the socio-economic growth of the country.
Banks have to lend support to the industries to meet the present situation. He praised the attempt and efforts of the founder of the Bank Sir Sorabji Pochkhanawala who founded this Bank in the back drop of the swadeshi movement. He also appreciated the efforts being put in by the Bank in providing advanced IT based facility to the customers and its various initiatives in the field of Financial Inclusion. He wished the Bank to scale still greater heights in the days to come to fulfill the dream of its great visionary founder. Shri D K Mittal, IAS, Secretary, Department of Financial Services applauded the efforts of the Bank in providing customer centric services. He emphasized that Bankers are the live partner in the growth of the country and they should find ways to help the enterprising entrepreneurs. He appreciated the efforts of the Bank in bringing all its Regional Rural Bank on CBS platform within stipulated period and also taking various initiatives, particularly in rural areas to meet the financial need of the people and industry.
On this occasion Hon’ble Finance Minister launched On-line facility of contribution to Prime Minister Relief Fund. Shri Namo Narain Meena, Hon’ble Minister of State (E&FS) launched the facility of Financial Literacy & Credit Counseling Centers in the Rural Area for counseling the people about their financial need. On this occasion Bank has also released its History Book documenting its 100 years journey and experience.
Shri M V Tanksale, Chairman & Managing Director of the Bank gave a brief account of Bank’s long journey of 100 years. He recalled that Central Bank of India, during its long innings, has evolved various schemes and was the pioneer in initiating various products and processes. Even today, Central Bank of India is having possibly the largest number of retail products to suit one and all. He informed that Bank is a people-friendly Bank and one of the most trusted Banking Brands in the country.
Hon’ble Finance Minister also felicitated Banks customers and its former Chairmen & Managing Directors on this occasion. The function was attended by Senior Government Officials, Customers and large number of staff. Mrs. V R Iyer and Mr. R.K. Dubey Executive Directors, extended vote of thanks and
assured that Bank will continue its efforts in bringing new customer centric initiatives and facilities to meet the requirements of its constituents.
In the evening Bank has also arranged a cultural program at Siri Fort Auditorium
