“BANK – FEDERATION SYNERGY: A CENTENARY YEAR SPONTANEOUS RESPONSE  PART 2

Compared to its century old stature, the centenary year is but a small period in the warp of time. In this short period its past glory is to be pondered over and cherished for the sake of posterity. For, it is going to serve for millennia to come.

The basic fibre of the Bank lies in its foresight. It has been decades ahead of its time. Otherwise, how could one fathom the insight it had in pioneering the Executors and Trustees business. Even in 1920s it had done ‘Underwriting’ of share issues of industries. It was the first to float public loans of provincial governments. Special accounts for savings by women and children and introduction of passbooks and having separate counters for women customers and having a Ladies Department in Mumbai Branch were some of the initiatives which may seem trivial to-day but were unheard of in the 1920s in the country. The Bank sold gold bars. It started a Depositors Benefit Insurance Co. Ltd. It introduced Cash Certificate. To-day we talk of financial supermarket and universal banking. But, can anyone fail to marvel the forays that the Bank had made in the banking field nearly a century back. The Bank is not only a century old it has been a century ahead! Unless we know how the institution had evolved over time and what its basic texture is and unless we take pride its past, we cannot hope to imbibe its character to forge ahead. This is what calls for celebration to-day.

Federation has plunged into the celebrations massively and meaningfully. In all Regional headquarters, its programmes have been launched. Mumbai unit conducted a Blood Donation Camp at Churchgate station and the programme was inaugurated by none other than Dr. Pilloo Parvez Hakim, grand daughter of the illustrious founder Sir Sorabhji Pochkhanawala. 135 units were donated by our colleagues and friends in the presence of Shri. A.K. Khadke, Zonal Manager of MMZO, Shri. K.K. Taneja, DGM/MRO and State AIBOC Leaders.

Our Agra Unit donated walkers to the differently abled at Agra, in the presence of Sri.B. Mishra, ZM of Agra. Donation of Rs. 11,000/- was given to the Deaf and Dumb school for renovation of their girls hostel at Meerut in the presence of Sri. A.K. Dhavan, AGM/RM of Meerut. Awareness on Eye donation was conducted at Meerut.

Rajasthan Unit distributed 100 blankets to INDRA KUSHT ASHRAM, Jaipur during their campaign in the presence of Shri.Shammi Kaplush, DGM/RM, Jaipur.

Tamilnadu Unit donated 100 bedspreads to Rajaji Old Age Home at Madurai in the presence of Shri. C. Periathambi, AGM/RM, Madurai. 50 bedspreads were donated to a home at Coimbatore for mentally retarded destitute in the presence of Shri. S. Palanisamy, AGM/RM, Coimbatore.

During the centenary celebrations of our beloved Bank, our Federation has taken oath of helping the needy/weaker sections of the society by involving ourselves on certain social objectives, by apportioning a part of our subscription every year.

Other units of the Federation concentrated in the mass contact programmes in identifying new customers and marketing of Bank products. More on these activities in the next and concluding part of this series of circulars.

With Greetings

Yours sincerely,
Sd/-
