“Bank – Federation Synergy: a Centenary Year Spontaneous Resolve
Yes, we are in the centenary year. The much awaited watershed in the onward march of the mighty Institution has been really reached. The epoch making saga of service to the society has reached another milestone and there is celebration all around. The Bank has started a variety of programmes in the length and breadth of the country and there is an air of euphoria everywhere. Centralites, serving and retired, their families, customers and general public all partake in the programmes and it is a year long festival season in the making.
This celebration is not because the Bank has passed through hundred long years. That happens with passage of time. What is celebrated is the grand success story that the Bank has achieved. The period 1906-1911 saw the swadeshi spirit emerging in the country, particularly in the Banking field. Though Indians started Banks in this period, it was ‘Central’ that was fully owned and totally managed by Indians. Raising the needed capital against innate pessimism was not the only challenge. Confidence building among the public in a wholly Indian Bank which was a novice in the field was a terrific challenge. Many a Bank, purely British, with all its expertise collapsed. Rumors of impending collapse of the Bank due to perceived over exposure in pearls and cotton had to be scotched. Bank had to face threatened runs keeping its counter open throughout the night to infuse confidence. It had faced the economic chaos resulting from two World Wars. Braving these trials and tribulations in the nascent stages, the Bank has reached the pinnacle of present glory through years of confidence building, innovative schemes and dedicated service. This success story is what calls for a celebration now.
Federation has led the bandwagon from the front. It has joined the Bank spontaneously and whole-heartedly in the fete. Our interests are inextricably intertwined with the Bank. That is the reason why, we have named our theme of celebration as ‘Bank-Federation Synergy’. It has embarked on an ambitious endeavour to mark the year-long event.
This endeavour seeks to embrace the society which the Bank has been serving for a century. They are original and as innovative as the Bank itself. We bring out a three part series of circulars on the centenary celebrations launched by the Federation. We had conducted a mass contact programme on 11.12.2011 at Regional Headquarters. Blood Donation Camps have been organized and bed spreads have been donated to destitute homes. More on the Bank’s sojourn and details of our celebration programmes are given in the next two circulars.
LONG LIVE CENTRAL BANK OF INDIA.
With Seasons Greetings,
Yours sincerely,
