AIBOC issued its circular No. 31 dated 08.03.2012 on International Women’s Day. We are placing the same here for our readers.
CIRCULAR NO. 31 Date: 08.03.2012
TO ALL AFFILIATES/MEMBERS:
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY - AIBOC CELEBRATES AND SALUTES THE EVER LASTING SPIRIT OF WOMANHOOD.
Around a century ago, International Women’s Day was started to commemorate the struggles and success of women employed primarily in the informal economy. Over the years the day has evolved into a celebration of womanhood. For 2012, the theme chosen by the UNO is “Empower rural women –end hunger and poverty.”
An epitome of courage, determination and perseverance, a woman plays myriad roles and takes on a thousand responsibilities with amazing ease. She is not just moving ahead but marching ahead with remarkable zeal and gusto.
Woman – a goddess of beauty, incarnation of motherhood, symbol of substance, has a strong attribute of being an efficient worker. She possesses an amazing horizon of caliber, dexterity and vigour. She has proved her mettle from auto –driving to helming the corporate world. She modestly crossed the boundaries of bedroom and confidently entered the boardroom, fighting against all adds, facing tormenting storms, with unshaken patience, calm and faith. She soared to the highest plane in education, defence, corporate world and many more sectors. She is organised, persuasive, composed, sensible and smart enough to avert a risk and generate thumping success and benefits. Today, there is no field or functional area where women are not adorning important positions. They are moving along with men elbow to elbow, reducing the gender related inequalities.
Surveys by the WILL Forum and KPMG Speak about the great caliber of women executives. Not only in India, holding the reins, despite being termed the weaker sex. Small town and village women also have accepted challenging roles as leaders in different sectors. We can see them toiling in the fields, running shops, offices and top-notch companies and at the end of the day, their homes, with the same zeal and dedication. No country can flourish; no society can survive without acknowledging the contribution of its womenfolk-they are the axis of economic and social growth. Senator Hillary Clinton said at an International Women’s Conference: “It is time to declare with one voice that women’s progress is human progress”.
The Banking Industry, especially the Public Sector Banks, who had male domination at top echelons can boast of Chairman & Managing Directors in the person of Ms Nupur Mitra, CMD of Dena Bank, Mrs. Shubhalaxmi Panse, CMD of UCO Bank, Mrs. Archana Bharga, CMD designate of United Bank of India, Ms. Arundhati Bhattacharjee, DMD of SBI, Ms. Soundara Kumar, DMD, of SBI, Ms. Iyer, CMD of Bank of India besides the Private Sector ICICI Bank’s Ms. Chanda Kochar.
But all this glitterati is shadowed by illiteracy, unemployment, poverty, gender bias in the rural areas among women, who need to be empowered to break the shackles of subjugation and slavery. It is high time the Government machinery makes sincere attempt to realise the theme of the UNO for the year 2012, by empowering the rural women, ending hunger and poverty.
A salute to woman’s multi-faceted persona.
We wish all our lady comrades in the Banking Industry all the very best in their lives and career. Let us all work sincerely to empower rural women, end hunger and poverty.
With greetings
