“FORMATION OF CETNRAL BANK RETIREE OFFICERS’ ORGANISATION

For a long time a need has been felt to have a strong Retiree Officers’ Organisation in Central Bank of India under the umbrella of the Federation to look into the problems and grievances of Retiree Officers and for taking up the issues at the appropriate level.

An effort had been made to form a Retiree Officers’ Organisation way back in 1997-98 in the bank for taking up the issues of the Retiree Officers. Retiree Officers’ Organisations were formed in some of the units like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Kolkata etc. However, for various reasons, the response from the Retiree Officers was not very much encouraging. May be the officers who retired with P.F. option did not feel the necessity of an Organisation and there were few Officers under pension option.

After the culmination of the Wage Revision settlement along with Second Option of pension in April 2010, a number of Officers have now come under the pension option and many of them have been urging for formation of a Retiree Officers’ Organisation to take up their issues and grievances with the management. Aptly this demand was also echoed in the E.C. Meeting of AIBOC held in Lucknow in the first part of this year. After due deliberations, a decision was taken by the confederation to form a Retiree Officers’ Organisation under the umbrella of AIBOC. The Confederation has also advised all the affiliates in Public and Private Sector to form such Federations/Associations in the respective Banks to be ultimately affiliated to the Confederation of Retiree Officers’ Organisation, sponsored by AIBOC.

As per the decision of AIBOC on this matter, our Federation has also advised all the Units to coordinate for forming a unit level association of Retiree Officers. Accordingly, a number of units took the initiative and now Retiree Officers’ Associations have been established in Tamil Nadu, Mumbai, Delhi, Patna, Chandigarh, Guwahati, Muzaffarpur, Kerala, Pune etc., apart from rejuvenating the already established Officers’ Organisations in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Kolkata etc.

The Federation is also in the process of forming a Federation of these Associations to have a coordinated approach to discuss, deliberate and take up the issues of the Retiree Officers apart from looking into the individual grievances.

In this background, the General Secretaries of the Retiree Officers’ Organisations in the units met on 30th August 2011 at Mumbai and deliberated on the matter of formation of Federation of Retiree Officers’ Organisation. This was chaired by Shri D.S. Bhaduaria, the then General Secretary of our Federation. Shri Y.S. Kumar, the then Treasurer and Shri Manoj Wadnerkar, Dy. General Secretary of Federation had also addressed the participants. In this meeting, it was unanimously decided to elect Shri N.K. Pareek, former President of our Federation as the Convener and requested him to initiate the process for the formation of Retiree Officers’ Federation. Shri K.K. Sengupta, Shri D. Doraisamy, Shri A.K. Nagar and Shri B.S. Shinde were elected as Joint Conveners to assist Shri Pareek in the task.

All our units and officer members may contact the Retired Officers in their area and encourage them to become members of the Retiree Officers’ Organisation for strengthening the movement.

We shall keep the members informed of further developments in due course.

Yours sincerely,
Sd/-
