Mr. Anup Banerji, Deputy Managing Director and Group Executive, State Bank of India says that SBI plans to hire more than 27000 people this year comprising 20000-22000 people in the clerical posts and 5500 people at the Probationary Officer level. Out of which, 2000 of the Probationary Officers will be recruited in rural sector and these officers will continue in rural marketing at least for next 10 years. Last year, SBI had recruited around 25000 people.
SBI also plans to add another 1000 branches this year with a view to increase its presence into new centres, which will take the no. of branches to 13000. The bank also aims to scale up the no. of ATMs to 25000 by the end of this fiscal.
Mr. M.V. Nair, Chairman and Managing Director, Union Bank of India and Chairman, IBA said that nearly 58% of the employees in state-run-banks will superannuate by 2012, which will create huge shortage of manpower in the industry.
