IOB TO ROPE IN CELL PHONE COS' AGENTS FOR RURAL PUSH

According to Mr. S.A. Bhat, Chairman and Managing Director, Indian Overseas Bank, they are in talks with mobile phone service providers to use their agents as Business Correspondents in semi-urban and rural areas to get wide reach and access to those markets. The bank is also planning to increase its Business Correspondents from the current 100 to 300 and to open 53 new branches by the end of March 2010.
