According to the data made available by RBI, deposit growth in semi-urban and rural areas was higher than growth recorded by metro and urban areas as of September 2009. Banks attribute the higher growth in deposits in semi-urban and rural centres to expansion of bank branches in these centres.
On credit front also, rural and semi-urban centres witnessed higher growth than the urban and metro centres.
