The RBI has asked banks to ask for one more proof in addition to the certificate issued by employers while opening salaried bank accounts. Banks should insist on at least one of the following: passport, driving licence, PAN card, voter's identity card, or utility bills.
“It has been brought to our notice that for opening bank accounts of salaried employees some banks rely on a certificate from the employer as the only KYC document for identity and address proof. Such a practice is open to misuse,” the RBI said in a notification.
