According to Mr. T.Y. Prabhu, Chairman and Managing Director, Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to work as a registrar for the UID project. The MoU was signed in the presence of Mr Nandan Nilekani, Chairman, UIDAI.
OBC is the ninth public sector bank to sign up as a registrar for the UID project.
As a registrar, OBC will make use of the services of empanelled enrollment agencies for capturing the identification details of each person along with biometric characteristics such as fingerprints, iris etc. This service will be available in the entire network of 1,500 branches spread all over the country.
