‘TRANSFORM TO OUTPERFORM' IS THEME FOR BANCON-2010

“Transform to outperform: ideate, innovate and inspire” is the theme for this year's two-day annual bankers' conference (Bancon-2010) starting December 3, 2010, in Mumbai.

Organised by Indian Banks Association (IBA), the apex organisation of banks, the event is being hosted by Central Bank of India.

The Reserve Bank of India Governor, Dr D. Subbarao, will inaugurate the conference, which will be attended by over 350 delegates.

The topics for this year's conference include: SME financing, M&A in Indian banking, Risk management, rural banking, corporate debt market, cross border opportunities in wholesale banking, developments in payment and settlement system and talent and leadership development in Indian banking.

Referring to this year's theme for the conference, Mr S. Sridhar, Chairman and Managing Director, Central Bank of India, said, “Indian banks are now being acknowledged for their sound practices, efficient performance and how they have withstood the global economic crisis. Therefore, now is the time to step up and outperform.”

With the economy on a song, there is tremendous opportunity for the banking sector. Banks can transform the economy and in the process, banks themselves will get transformed, said Mr Sridhar.

Dr K Ramakrishnan, Chief Executive, Indian Banks Association, said banking is an inevitable partner in the country's growth. With the Indian economy growing at 9-9.5 per cent, there is lot of competition among banks. The idea is try to outperform competition. In order to that there is need to ideate, innovate and inspire, which is this year's Bancon theme.
