TO ALL AFFILIATES/MEMBERS:

46TH NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF SOUTH INDIAN BANK OFFICERS’ ASSOCIATION HELD IN A GRAND STYLE

The 46th National Conference of our affiliate South Indian Bank Officers’ Association was held in a grand manner on 23rd October 2011, at Towers Hotel Auditorium at Thrissur, the cultural and financial capital of Kerala at 10.AM.  A well decorated AC Hall of the conference was jam packed with the delegates,  invitees and the members  to witness, inaugural session of the Conference. The session commenced with invocation song.

Com. K.D. Vargheese, General Secretary of SIBOA,  in his welcome speech expressed his happiness that, Bank has crossed a milestone by achieving   Rs.50,000/-  crores of business as at 31.03.2011 and marching ahead to achieve  the dream by each and every SIBian of one crore of business by 2014. The Bank has also bagged four prestigious awards during the year. He was proud that, service conditions of their officers are better than many of the peer group banks. The Bank is extending compassionate appointments to the dependents of deceased officers, within one or two months. A minimum incentive is paid to all categories of staff.

Shri. C.N.Balakrishnan, Hon’ble Minister for Co-operation, Government of Kerala, inaugurated the conference. In his speech, he appreciated the role played by the South Indian Bank and complimented the management and the staff, in the economic development of the State.

Shri. P.C. Chacko, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, congratulated the management and the staff for achieving many laurels during the year. He said that, the main reason for the success of the Bank is the cordial industrial relations atmosphere prevailing in the Bank.

He dwelt in detail on the contribution of Indian Banks to the economy of the country from 1969 onwards, through branch expansion and integrated rural development programme from 1991. Government of India has unveiled its liberalization policy for Indian Banking Industry to compete with Banks having global presence. He assured that, voice of the workers and unions on proposed amendments to Banking Law will be heard, before it is being amended in the Parliament, and all efforts of the Government to weaken the old generation private sector as well as the public sector Banks will be thwarted, declared Chako amidst thunderous applause.

Dr. V.A. Joseph, MD & CEO of the Bank attributed the achievements of the Bank to the staff. He was happy to share that, more number of applications have been received from the candidates for appointment in the Bank. One of the conditions for recruitment was a minimum of one year experience in any of the Banks. He said that, candidates from new generation Private Banks, Public Sector Banks including State Bank and its subsidiaries have applied for posts in South Indian Bank. This is evident that, our service conditions are better than our competitors, said Sri. Joseph.

Com. G.D. Nadaf, General Secretary, AIBOC, in his keynote address expressed his happiness on SIBOA achieving revision in perks and requested the management to consider the demand of the Association on welfare scheme for the staff to take care of the educational and medical needs of the serving and retired staff. He dwelt on the issues of 5th August 2011 strike and future strategy of the UFBU. He requested Shri. P.C. Chacko the Hon’ble Member of Parliament to provide an opportunity to the Confederation to present its views before the Standing Committee on Banking Law Amendment Bill. He complimented the MD & CEO on his extension of the term and for maintaining cordial industrial relations in the Bank. That is the secret of success for the Bank. Any expenses towards the HR is an investment, where it will yield better return. He complimented the management in providing compassionate appointments to the dependents of deceased staff. The whistle blowers are to be protected, instead of targeting them for penalty. The duty of the Association is to expose mismanagement in the interest of the general public & stake holders. The Unions and Associations in the Banks are integral part of the management.  All the three should function in tandem for success of the Bank. He also complimented Kerala State Unit of AIBOC for its active role as whistle blower.

Com. P.V. Mathew, Senior Vice President of AIBOC, General Secretary of AIPSBOF, in his felicitation speech expressed his unhappiness that, Government of India has decides  to permit new  generation Private Sector Banks viz ICICI and HDFC to conduct the Government business. As their foreign capital is more than 51%, practically they are Foreign Banks. Therefore, Government should be careful in exposing the business to foreign Banks. He also complimented the South Indian Bank and the Association for maintaining excellent industrial relations atmosphere in the Bank.

Com. T. Sasikumar, General Secretary, SIBEA, Com. John Joseph, General Secretary SIBRSA also extended their warm felicitations. SIBOA, Gold medals and awards were distributed to the wards of staff who have achieved academic excellence in their career. The retired members were honoured.
