CIRCULAR NO.27                     05.03.2010

TO ALL AFFILIATES/MEMBERS:

TRADE UNION MOVEMENT- ACTIVATING OF ALL INDIA CO-ORDINATION COMMITTEE OF UNIONS IN FINANCIAL SECTOR (AICCUFS)

The Executive Committee of the All India Bank Officers’ Confederation met at Panjim:Goa on 17th February, 2010 had an occasion to deliberate on the various developments that are taking place on the labour front with particular reference to the Trade Union movement in the country.  The members were enthusiastically appreciating the contributions of the Confederation for the growth of trade unions amongst the various financial institutions with particular emphasis in the Banking Industry.  The members were also happy that the Confederation was singularly responsible for bringing militant trade union movement in the Banking Industry, run on the trade union principles and led heroically by the leaders of the movement over the last 25 years.

The Confederation had taken several initiatives to diversify the activities of the organization wherein the trade union movement got an impetus in other organizations including the Public Sector units.  One of the initiatives which prompted the Confederation, in the interest of the united approach for the unions in the entire financial institutions was, the establishment of the All India Co-ordination Committee of Unions in Financial Sector (AICCUFS) under the convenor ship of Com. Shantharaju, the then General Secretary of the Confederation.  This gave a tremendous boost to the trade unions in the entire financial sector including the Reserve Bank and Insurance Companies who became equally interested in the movement.  However, the initiative did help in bringing all the unions in the financial sector under one umbrella but the tempo did not pickup further due to the various other challenges and the diversions that the unions in different sectors were facing during the last 3 to 4 years. While, the members acknowledging the contributions of the Confederation in establishing the AICCUFS, were of the unanimous view that when the Confederation is celebrating its Silver Jubilee Year of foundation, it would be more apt for the leadership of the Confederation to move forward and take necessary steps to activate the AICCUFS with a view to make further gains in consolidation of the working class in the entire financial sector under one fraternal umbrella.  The suggestions made by the Executive Committee will be given effect to in due course.

All our affiliates/members are requested to await further developments in the matter.
With greetings,
Sd/-
(G.D. NADAF)
GENERAL SECRETARY
