FAREWELL TO COM.R.GOPALAKRISHNAN, PRESIDENT OF LAKSHMI VILAS BANK OFFICERS’ ASSOCIATION

A grand function was organised by the Lakshmi Vilas Bank Officers’ Association on 28th February, 2010 at Ajanta Hotel, Trichy to bid a farewell to Com.R.Gopalakrishnan, President, on his retirement from the Bank’s service.  The programme commenced with prayer and welcome address by Com.R.Subramanian, General Secretary of the Association.

Com.P.Vijaysenan, President of AIBOC, Tamil Nadu State Unit presided.  In his presidential address he praised the Association for its organisational activities and being one of the role model to other  units.  He said that the Association has already celebrated its 40th Anniversary having its own website and publication of a magazine periodically. He also felicitated  Com. Gopalakrishnan retiring leader for his service to the membership.

Com. G.D.Nadaf, General Secretary, AIBOC was Guest of Honour.  In his key note address, recalled his association with Com.Gopalakrishnan and also Lakshmi Vilas Bank Officers’ Association.  Though the unit is small, they used to be in the forefront in all organisational activities.  He placed on record the selfless service rendered by Com.Gopalakrishnan to the Association and the Confederation.  He thanked his family members for the support, without which it would not have been possible for him to serve the membership.  On behalf of the Confederation he wished Com.Gopalakrishnan good health, peace, prosperity, contented and active retired life.

He further continued his felicitation address and shared the latest position on organisational activities and pending negotiations with the IBA on distribution of wage cost and settlement 2nd Option on Pension to CPF optees, gratuity ceiling etc.  Due to certain reasons the talks with IBA are not progressing the way it was expected, but he was confident that the settlement on pension and salary revision will be concluded within a month’s time.

Shri.K.S.R. Anjaneyulu, MD & CEO of Lakshmi Vilas Bank, was the Chief Guest.  He described Com.Gopalakrishnan as a balanced, experienced and cogent person.  The Management and Association are like two eyes of the Bank and there is a perfect co-ordination between them.  Due to time tested systems, procedures and control in the Banking Industry, global financial crisis could not have much adverse effect on the economy of the country. He appealed to the employees to further strengthen the business of the Bank.

Com.P.V.Mathew, General Secretary of AIPSBOF, recalled his association with Lakshmi Vilas Bank Officers’ Association and its leadership. The Lakshmi Vilas Bank Officers’ Association is one of the founder units of AIBOC.  They were the first to organise a seminar on the ill effects of Globalisation on the economy of the Country.  The Federation of Private Sector Banks is a shinning star of the AIBOC, who take active part in all activities of the Confederation. He praised the leadership qualities of Com.Gopalakrishnan and his oratorical skills.

Com.V.Eswaran, former President of AIBOC felicitated Com.Gopalakrishnan.  Incidentally, Com.Eswaran started his banking career in Lakshmi Vilas Bank.  He recollected his days in the Bank.  He appreciated their leader Com.Armugam, former General Secretary of LVBOA, in getting parity in scales with other Banks.  The compassionate appointment scheme is still prevalent in Lakshmi Villas Bank, even as it is given a go bye in other Banks due to Government guidelines.  Lakshmi Vilas Bank has completed 83 years of its meaningful existence.  The Association has its own benevolent fund, which provides the family of deceased members who die in service with Rs. 3/- lacs of financial assistance and pension of Rs. 2,000/- p.m said Com.Eswaran.  He also wished Com.Gopalakrishnan all the best.

Com.P.Manoharan, General Secretary of Lakshmi Vilas Bank Employees’ Union, in his speech, while acknowledging the service of Com.Gopalakrishnan to the Association appealed to the younger generation of officers to take keen interest on the activities of the Association.  Running an efficient trade union in a private sector is a difficult task and in Lakshmi Vilas Bank both Officers Association and Employees Union are functioning together to achieve common facilities like ex-gratia, staff housing loan of Rs. 15/- lacs at concessional rate of interest etc. He felicitated Com.Gopalakrishnan with mementoes.

Com.R.Swaminathan, former General Secretary, of Lakshmi Vilas Bank Officers’ Association briefed on the Saga of Struggles and achievements of the Association and the contributions of its leaders.  Com.R.Gopalakrishnan in his response thanked the Management, Confederation and others who have provided him an opportunity to serve the Bank and its officers in the capacity as an Office Bearer of The Lakshmi Vilas Bank Officers’ Association for more than 23 years.  Com.K.Gopish, President designate proposed vote of thanks.  The programme concluded with national anthem.

It was well attended meeting which provided an opportunity to the members to felicitate retiring comrades.  As a due recognition of indirect contribution of the family members to the Association, Smt. Shanthakumari, wife of Com.Gopalakrishnan was also felicitated on the occasion.

The Confederation while congratulating the Lakshmi Vilas Bank Officers’ Association for a grand farewell function, acknowledges the service rendered by Com.Gopalakrishnan to the Officers’ community and wish him all the best in his retired life.
