TIGHTER NORMS SOON FOR HOME LOAN FIRMS TOO

Housing finance companies may also have to follow the lending norms the RBI has prescribed for banks.

National Housing Bank, the regulator for these companies, is in consultation with the apex bank to issue similar guidelines for housing finance companies.

The central bank had, in its monetary policy, asked banks to increase the standard asset provisioning for teaser home loans to 2 per cent from 0.4 per cent. In addition, the RBI capped the loan to value ratio at 80 per cent and asked banks to increase the risk weight on loans above Rs 75 lakh to 125 per cent.
