As per the latest statistics released by RBI, top bankers favor places like Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu or Uttar Pradesh while looking at expansion of operations.
For instance, Canara Bank launched as many as 104 branches in November 2009, of which 24 were in Karnataka, 14 in Tamil Nadu, 7 in Andhra Pradesh and 6 in Maharashtra. Similarly, Union Bank of India launched 67 branches in Maharashtra.
Scheduled Commercial Banks opened 4730 branches in 2008-09 across the country and 53% of those are in these states.
