BANKS' DEPOSIT GROW FASTER THAN CREDIT SO FAR IN FY12


India's banks saw a faster growth in deposit compared with credit so far in the fiscal year beginning April 2011, data from the RBI on Wednesday showed.

Banks' deposit grew 3.3 percent to 53,776 bn rupees as of June 3 from 52,047 bn rupees on March 25, while credit grew at a slower 1.1 percent to 39,804 bn rupees from 39,387 bn rupees.

On a fortnightly basis, credit grew by 283 bn rupees, while deposits grew by 583 bn rupees.
