AIBOC CIRCULAR NO. 63 DATED 15TH JUNE 2011


AIBOC issued its circular No. 63 dated 15th June 2011 on 100th International Women’s Year Celebrated by Maharashtra State Unit-I of AIBOC. We are reproducing the same here for our readers.

OUR MAHARASHTRA STATE UNIT – I - 100TH INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S YEAR CELEBRATION

Our Maharashtra State Unit-I celebrated 100th International Women’s Year in a grand manner at Mumbai on 28.05.2011. More than 270 lady Comrades from all the affiliates of AIBOC, including 7 lady comrades from Pune District Unit thronged the Conference Hall, which was beautifully and tastefully decorated, befitting the solemn occasion.

The jampacked auditorium was a witness to the melodious songs sung by the lady comrades from various affiliates, which regaled the audience by creating a mellifluous atmosphere around.

The programme commenced with an invocation song rendered by Comrade.Anitha Pol and her team.  Ms.Shubha Raul, Ex-Mayor of Mumbai, Ms.Gauri Rane, well know columnist of Economic Times, Ms.Pushpa Kumar, Secretary, Women’s Wing, AIBOC, Ms.Aruna Agnihotri, Chairperson, Women’s Wing of AIBOC, Com.Ravi Shetty, Secretary, AIBOC Maharashtra State Unit-I and Com.Shekhar Kadam, President, State Unit-I, were given a rousing reception when they were led to the dais and they lit the traditional lamp.

Ms.Aruna Agnihothri, extending a warm welcome to all the guests and participants, traced the history of Women’s movement, especially in the Banking Industry, underlined the need for women officers to organise themselves to get their grievances settled and aspirations realised.  Highlighting the importance of educating the girl child, she told that a whole generation will be educated by educating a girl.

Com. Ravi Shetty, explained the steps taken by AIBOC for the empowerment of Women Officers in the Banking Industry by encouraging them to organise under the banner of AIBOC and the very fact that a large number of women are participating in the celebration augurs well for the Women’s movement.  He outlined the course and action plan, the State unit is embarking upon, for further empowerment of women officers in the Trade Union movement and their betterment.

Speaking on the occasion, Com.Shekhar Kadam, said that women empowerment is well set’ and women officers in the Banking Industry should further get empowered to face the challenges before them squarely.

Ms.Gauri Rane, underlining the capabilities of womenfolk who have made a mark in all walks of life, exhorted the women comrades to strike a balance between family and work life, to take care of their children, which sometimes takes a back seat in the quest for career progression and personal ambitions.

Ms.Shubha Raul, former mayor of Mumbai, delivering the key note address explained about the course of her journey leading her to the coveted post of Mayor of the Metro City of Mumbai.  She narrated in detail the causes of women as well as of the general public she championed in her career as a social worker, and a political leader.  She gave a clarion call to the women officers to espouse the cause of women who have remained in the shadow of men, for centuries and it is time for all women to rise to the occasion and grab what is due to them.  She inspired the Women to fight for social and economic equality. For this, she declared educating the girl child is of paramount importance.

A paper on “Career opportunities for Women Officers – Challenges Ahead” was presented by Ms.Nisha Nair of IOB and Ms.Mala Naryanan of Central Bank of India presented a paper on the problems and remedies on the issues confronting women officers in the Banking Industry.

Many speakers gave their views on the issues and there was a lively and meaningful debate on the issues. There was bubbling enthusiasm among the women officers, to speak on the various issues.

Com.Ravi Shetty, Secretary of the State Unit, read out the message sent by Com.G.D.Nadaf, General Secretary of AISBOF and AIBOC.  Underlining the important role being played by women in many walks of life, Com.Nadaf, gave a call to women officers to take active part in the Trade Union activities.

We heartily congratulate leadership of our Maharashtra State Unit-I for celebrating the 100th year of Women’s day in a grand and elegant manner and needless to say, the event has spurred the women officers in the Banking Industry to involve wholeheartedly in the Trade Union activities.
