AIBOC issued its circular No. 38 dated 04.04.2012 on full day working on Saturday the 7th April 2012 declared by the Govt. of India. We are placing the same here for our readers.

CIRCULAR NO.  38                                                      Date: 04.04.2012

TO ALL AFFILIATES/MEMBERS:

FULL DAY WORKING ON SATURDAY THE 7TH APRIL, 2012

We understand that, under instruction from Government of India , Management of  all  banks have decided to keep open  the branches  on Saturday  the 7th April, 2012  for full day, as 5th & 6th April,2012 are holidays in  few states. Wherever as  5th April, 2012  is not a holiday in majority of states  as Mahaveer Jayanthi is celebrated on 4th April, 2012.  Therefore , we have written a letter  to the IBA to  reconsider  the decision  of declaring  7th April, 2012  as full day.

However , if banks  are asked  to   work for full day on 7th April, 2012 our  affiliates shall take up with the respective Managements, the issue of adequate cash compensation to officers for extended working hours, as in the lines of overtime  payments to workmen staff.

A copy of our letter to the IBA is enclosed.

With  greetings,

Dear Sir,

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA INSTRUCTIONS TO ALL BANKS TO WORK FULL DAY ON SATURDAY THE 7TH APRIL , 2012

We understand that, under instructions from Government of India, all Banks will be kept open for full day on Saturday the 7th April, 2012. The decision was taken, keeping in view of the two days continuous holidays on 5th & 6th April, 2012 at some states. However, for Central Government establishments, 7th April, 2012 being Saturday is also holiday. In this connection, we have to mention here that :

Ø  5th & 6th  April 2012 are holidays only in some states, where as in some other states 4th & 6th April,2012 are declared as holidays on account of Mahveer Jayanthi and Good Friday, respectively
Ø  The 8th April, is a festival  (Easter) for Christian  Community .

In  view of the above , it not advisable to declare Saturday the 7th April, 2012 as full day at all states. The workman staff will have to be paid overtime for the extended working hours. There is a need to compensate the Officers towards out of pocket expenses like Lunch, Conveyance etc. The alternate channels like ATM, Internet Banking will take core of the customers needs.

Hence , we suggest that, there is no need to extend the working hours on 7th April, 2012  in all places.

We shall be glad, if you will take up the issue with the Government of  India for review of the decision .

Please treat the matter as most urgent.

With Greetings

Yours faithfully
