PUBLIC, PRIVATE SECTOR BANKS STEP UP CREDIT TO MSME


Public sector and private banks in Karnataka have stepped up the flow of credit to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). Banks as on March 31, 2011 have committed Rs 40,532 crore.

According to the SLBC agenda note, total advances to micro and small enterprises stood at Rs 24,800 crore, which is 61 per cent out of the total advances to MSME sector.

The outstanding level of credit to micro enterprises stood at Rs 11,075 crore. Total advances to small enterprises were at the order of Rs 13,725 crore. The advances to medium enterprises stood at Rs 15,732 crore.

Under guarantee scheme of Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE), banks have covered 19,747 units with an approved amount of Rs 93,941 lakh during the year and cumulative figures are 39,227 applications amounting to Rs 1,97,407 lakh.

As for the collateral free loans to micro and small enterprises (MSE) sector, according to the RBI directive, banks are mandated not to accept collateral security in the case of loans up to Rs 10 lakh extended to units of the MSE sector.

Banks have been told strongly to encourage their branch functionaries to avail themselves of the CGTMSE cover, including making performance in this regard a criterion in the evaluation of their field staff. All commercial banks and RRBs have been requested to issue suitable instructions to controlling offices/branches for meticulous/strict compliance in this regard.

BANKING STATISTICS
As at the end of March 2011, the total number of bank branches in the State were 7,268 out of which, commercial banks-5122, RRBs-1256, Co-operative Banks- KASCARD-177, APEX BANK-38, DCC Bank-608, Ind. Coop bank-38 and KSFC-29 branches.

The total deposits of banks was Rs 3,36,682 crore in FY 2010-11 as compared to Rs 2,74,752 crore in FY 2009-10, registering an increase of Rs 61,930 crore, showing a growth of 22.54 per cent.

The total outstanding advances of banks was Rs 2,55,983 crore in FY 2010-11 as compared to Rs 2,13,983 crore in FY 2009-10, thereby registering an increase of Rs 42,000 crore, a growth rate of 19.63 per cent.
