AIBOC CIRCULAR NO. 15 DATED 09.02.2011

AIBOC issued its circular No. 15 dated 09.02.2011 on 9th Triennial General Council meeting held at Bhubaneshwar. We are reproducing the same here for our readers.

CIRCULAR NO.15                                                     09.02.2011

TO ALL AFFILIATES/MEMBERS:

9TH TRIENNIAL GENERAL COUNCIL - THRUST FOR MOBILIZATION OF WOMEN OFFICERS - COUNCIL EXTENDS FULL SUPPORT TO NATIONAL WOMEN’S WING

The 9th Triennial General Council is a land mark as far as the consolidation of Women Officers in the banking industry is concerned. The General Council witnessed qualitative change in the deliberations of the delegates on the various subjects brought forward in the assembly. The most gratifying development during the present Council is a forward movement as far as the Women’s wing is concerned and their participation in the deliberations during business session. The participation was highly encouraging as far as the number of participants and the quality of presentation is concerned. It was a total representation from almost all affiliates in the Council Meeting.

The Women comrades also participated in a large number in the procession, carrying the banners, placards and giving total support to the slogan shouting on streets of the Temple City of Bhubaneshwar, despite the inclement temperature and the long distance that was required to be covered.   They marched in a highly disciplined manner attracting the attention of the general public, demonstrating militant stance and spreading the message of consolidation of women officers in the banking industry.

A good number of speakers in the Business Session spoke about the need for looking after the welfare of the Women Officers in the banks and the special emphasis as regards placement, transfer, promotion, welfare facilities etc., keeping in view the hardships that they had to face when they are posted to interior parts of the country.  The speakers also deliberated about the need for consolidation of the women officers at the affiliates’ level and providing them an appropriate representation in all the forums, so that more number of women officers could be brought to the mainstream of the trade union movement in the country.  Notably the speakers included Comrades Vijaya Ananda Krishnan - President, DBOO, Mala Narayanan - AICBOF, K.V.Sharada - AIABOF, Amitha Sharma – FOBOIOF and Roopa Rao from ABOA, Maymol Mathew - RBOA, Jyothi and they won the admiration of the delegates and observers for their meticulous and articulate presentation.

Com. Pushpa Kumar, Secretary and Com.Aruna Agnihotri, Chairperson, National Women’s Wing deserve our appreciation for encouraging more and more women officers to take active part in the debate on the General Secretary’s Report.

The 9th Triennial General Council also took a historic decision of ensuring proper financial support to the activities of the Women’s Wing in view of the fact that, some of the affiliates are finding it difficult to extend the financial support and a similar situation is arising in the State Unit as well. It is therefore decided to provide the financial support and to subsidize a portion of the expenditure from Head quarters office for the activities of Women’s Wing in order to encourage their activities as well as consolidation of the women officers in the banks.  It will not be out of place to mention here that the recent recruitments in the banks have revealed that the number of female staff joining the banks is much more than that of the male staff in various banks.  Thus, they will be a strong, potential member in the days to come.

Comrades, the Council emphasises the need for the organization of Women Officers at the affiliate and state level in order to take advantage of their growing strength in the banks.  It was also resolved that the State Units should activate the Women’s Wing, and while the affiliates were appealed to provide necessary support and encouragement to them to come forward to take up the responsibility of mobilizing the women Officers in their respective banks.

The 9th General Council has thus given a fine start for activating the Women’s Wing, and we look forward to the Women’s wing at the National level to take the task of consolidation and mobilisation with a missionary zeal in the days to come.

With greetings,
Sd/-
(G.D. NADAF)
GENERAL SECRETARY
