State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to take up enrolment for issuing of UID number or ‘Aadhaar' in Andhra Pradesh.
With this, SBH had become a non-state registry to conduct enrolments. “SBH is uniquely-placed to take part in this national project in view of our reach and branch network,” Ms Renu Challu, Managing Director, SBH told newspersons.
The modalities of executing the enrolment would be decided very shortly. “We may consider setting up district-level nodal centres for the purpose,” she said while adding that no targets were fixed as yet.
As a non-State registrar of UDIAI for project, SBH would get a reimbursement of Rs 50 per capita for every successful enrolment which would result in issuing of UID number.
SBH has a customer base of over 1.3 crore with 800 branches (of total 1,200) in Andhra Pradesh.
However, the enrolment would also be open to non-customers of SBH, she added.
Mr V.S. Bhaskar, Deputy Director General, UIDAI, Hyderabad said more banks might be roped in future for the project.
