CIRCULAR NO.11 07.02.2011
TO ALL AFFILIATES/MEMBERS:
9TH TRIENNIAL GENERAL COUNCIL - ELDERS HONOURED – A TRIBUTE TO PAST LEADERSHIP
“When the history of Indian Managerial Trade Union movement is recorded by the Government as a demonstration of the industrial democracy it has been practicing over the years, the Bank Officers’ movement will be show cased in golden letters as an example of the most militant organisation in the country. The Bank Officers are the only group of professional workers organized on the basis of the workers’ trade union movement in the country through sustained struggles and sacrifices of thousands and thousands of officers over the last 50 years which saw the great indefinite strike by State Bank Officers that laid a strong foundation for our movement” declared Com. Shantha Raju, the former General Secretary of the Confederation amidst thunderous applause by over 2000 delegates and observers assembled in the 9th Triennial General Council, speaking on behalf of the former Presidents and General Secretaries in response to the felicitations offered to them. It was an electrifying speech bringing the nostalgic memories of our movement. He acknowledged the honour and stated that we were just in the forefront of the movement, carrying the banner and it was unseen hands and faces of the masses who were behind them in thousands and thousands over the last 50 years who are the real leaders who built this movement through their sweat and blood, through sustained struggles and sacrifices and the honour really belongs to them and we only symbolically represent them.
It was a touching moment in the three days grand gala function. When the house was informed by Com.P.K.Sarkar, President of the Confederation that the former Presidents and General Secretaries of the Confederation would be honoured in recognition of their contributions to the Bank Officers’ movement over the last several decades there was a thunderous applause. The dais was in readiness to conduct the honour under the leadership of Com.G.D.Nadaf, General Secretary of the Confederation. The pleasant task of presenting a brief resume of the leaders, who were honoured was done by Com.Nagaraja Shastry, Secretary of the Confederation, who took all the care and pains to give a tantalizing account of the contributions made by the leaders of the movement over the last 50 years. The leaders honoured on the occasion included:
Com.Shantha Raju, Former General Secretary and President.
Com. K.D.Kheda, Former President.
Com. Anil Kumar Jana, Former President
Com. Amarpal, former General Secretary
Com.R.C.Aggarwal, Former President.
Com.V.Eswaran, Former President.
Com.K.S.Shetty, Former President.
The House was informed that, the founder stalwarts of our Confederation namely Com.S.R.Sengupta, the founder President of the Confederation and Com.R.N.Godbole, the founder General Secretary of the Confederation, were not present due to their pre-occupations, it was a great disappointment to the august gathering.
The entire leadership on the dais participated in the task of honouring the leaders on the occasion. The leaders were presented with a bouquet, shawl and also a Silver Coin to remember the occasion as a token of love and affection of the entire fraternity of the Confederation in recognition of their valuable services to the bank officers’ movement over the years. It was a unique occasion for the leadership as well who were able to reach the venue despite the age factor to receive the honour and meet the past members with whom they had spent almost their entire trade union life and career.
The President and the General Secretary while acknowledging the services of all the leaders and praying for their continued good health and prosperity desired that their services should be available for the future generations of the members and strengthening of the Confederation in the times to come.
Comrades, it was a great moment for all of us. The standing ovation that was given to the leaders on the occasion is a demonstration of the good tradition that the Confederation has been cultivating in recognizing the services of the senior comrades in building this great organization over the years. The rich tradition and the convention of recognizing the seniors and their contributions is yet another glorious culture, which will enhance the image of the Confederation and further cement the solidarity and unity in the Bank Officers’ movement in the days to come.
With greetings,
Sd/-
(G.D. NADAF)
GENERAL SECRETARY
